These free storytimes involve board books, songs, and rhymes that help babies with language acquisition and pre-literacy skills. Open to children ages 0 – 23 months and their caregivers. We have adopted the street in front of Staunton River Memorial Library in Altavista, which means that we will help keep it litter free. Once every season, we invite you to our Adopt-A-Street day! Our spring Adopt-A-Street will be on Wednesday, March 18, 4 – 5 p.m. Meet us at the library and help us help the planet! We have everything you will need: bags, gloves, vests, and grabbers.

This is an outdoor event and will be weather permitting. All ages are welcome, and a guardian must be present for ages 17 and under.

Celebrate National Agriculture Day, shortened to Ag Day, with us at the Patrick Henry Memorial Library in Brookneal on Tuesday, March 24, 4 – 5 p.m.! This event for all ages will include an agricultural storytime.

Children and teens can also compete in our Ag Day LEGO® Contest. What does Ag Day mean to you? Build a LEGO® creation answering that question at our event, and then the community can vote for their favorite the following week. Age categories are 4 – 10 years and 11 – 17 years. The winners will get a prize.

Storytime Picnic returns soon! We bring the book, outdoor games, and fun! You bring a snack (optional) and enjoy the day. Join us each Thursday, March 26 – May 28, for Storytime Picnic. This program is different from our regular storytimes and is located at the Timbrook Park Pavilion between the library and baseball fields. We will read the selected book on and off throughout the event, do a themed craft, and play yard games. Swing by anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. For children ages 0 – 5 and their families.
